Have you actually seen that piece of cloth? If not, how can you tell
whether that's false detail or part of the weave of the cloth.

Fortunately they have a sample from a medium format camera, the Pentax 645D, with 40 MPixel resolution:

My point of view: the E-3 shot lacks detail, the E-5 introduces some block-artefacts. The artefacts are probably due to trying to show the brightness variation in the fabric.

Incidentally, Olympus Viewer shows a slight tendency toward these artefacts, but they really aren't that visible. OTOH, you don't get as much detail from Olympus Viewer.
