On the DX camera, the 50 is quite useful for indoor head-chest candid shots. Some mentioned the 85 but it is too long indoors when the space is tight. Photozone already reviewed the AFS 50/1.8 lens and likes it very much. An alternative would be the Sigma 50/1.4 — a large and more expensive lens, but its beautiful bokeh is highly sought after for candids.
