D7k as an update of D90

Dang , Renato. I sure wish you had a D90 instead of a D80.I'm still trying to decide if I want to trade up to a D7000 or not.

In terms of IQ difference will be less, the D90's sensor is already better than the D80's by some margin. Detail, for me, is the least important issue. DR, color and tone gradation are more relevant. I'm finding the D7k outstanding in all those aspects, in some, LLs recovery, it's better than the D700, at base ISOP, as eNo showed. And LLs recovery is mostly meaningful for landscapes, actually, something one uses base ISO for. I think it's much better than the D90 in that respect as well.

Now, re specs, it's also better: VF, real MLU, user settings in the mode dial, higher fps and, maybe really underestimated since not many action specialists are testing it, AF. Stany (photoforfun) has tested and says it's outstanding for that as well.

So, I think it depends on your shooting style: if you like to shoot high DR scenes (and all landscapes/cityscapes fall in that area), like to do careful DR control (it's much easier using LLs and HLs recovery an d then applying a little tone curve adjustment than for a D80), like color gradation, and/or can use the better specs/speed/AF, my view is, yes, it's a great update of the D90 as well.

If you need even better specs, than waiting for the D400 is a good idea.
