You see, just because you don't like something doesn't make it nerdy. That's called denial.

If you were a mechanic, there would be no point in complaining that you didn't like using computer diagnostics. Would make you pretty useless these days.

If you are a hobbyist, it's your money and time and it really doesn't matter. However if you charge for your work, there's no excuse for only knowing one part of your trade and not the other.

As for the D700 and skin tones, seems a lot of people manage it just fine. I use ACR and Photoshop and have very few issues once I fine tune the white balance.
