I loved the AA option (for my travel stuff I went everything AA and then a single charger handled all my power requirements)

It looks like the fuji equivalent (s3200/s4000) still use AA for power but I don't have any personal experience with that end of the fuji spectrum (fd31 was nice though!)

Only other suggestion I'd contribute - get a handful of (small) memory cards rather than load the camera with 1 or 2 big ones. Change the cards around often (more often than you need to) so you get some of everywhere on each of the cards. Keep the spare cards with your travel documents. Then if/when someone pinches the camera, you don't lose all your pictures in the one hit. You can always sort them by date, location etc when you get home and load all the pictures to disk.
