I marvel at fine pix taken with a D80. I had one and really struggled with it. Kept the 18-70 and moved to a D300. That was a good move for me.

The D80 was, probably, the most problematic camera ever from Nikon regarding exposure, and my tests in the other thread confirm that. The D7k seems much more conservative re MM and HLs, but I still go with spotmetering, manual and a very simple zone system + histograms (especially if RED has a strong component).
