Hi, I'm getting a refurbished E-20 from the US. Most things are way cheaper overthere so while I'm at it I might as well get the accessories I need for a good start. So far my list goes something like this:

1. UV, Polarizing, and infrared filters (multicoated)
2. Wcon08B WA lens
3. 1gig Microdrive

4. Flash bracket and cable for Metz 54 or 70 (I'll buy the flash itself in Sweden or Germany)
5. A smart charger and some more high mAh batteries
6. Perhaps a Tamrac bag (613)

Since there's no knowing if the E-series will continue to live on I think I'll give the Lipo grip a miss unless persuaded otherwise. I have the remote cable release for my E-100. I already have a good tripod and head.

I mainly shoot sceneries and interiors of old buildings but I hope to set up a little studio to study portrait photography and product shots.

Any input on my preliminary list is very welcome as well as tips on where to buy online at the best price from a reliable dealer.

Thanks in advance, Maxven

P.S.: I know that customs would rip me off if I order directly so I'm having a friend ship it to me as a gift.

I particularly like the WA. I used that accessory more than any others.

Something I just bought recently--for another camera, but is entirely appropriate for the E10/20 is the Newton flash bracket. I was persuaded that the Strobo 120 was exactly what I needed for the E10 since I do have the grip. It rotated the flash rather than the camera and was always a pain for portrait mode. I recently bought the Newton Di400CR (rotates the camera--and this one is more apropo for tripod--altho' I just did a long shoot handheld--no choice--using it on the D60 with large lens). It is much pricier than the Strobos, but I certainly do love it--compact, strong, works like a dream for rotating the camera.

Hey Quacker,

Congrats on ordering an E-20...you're gonna love it...

After the UV and polarizer filter the next thing I got for my E-10 was an Optech neoprene strap...makes the camera feel 50% lighter and is large enough so I can carry it around my shoulder with the camera hanging on my opposite side near my hip like an SLR is normally carried...much more comfortable than carrying it around your neck...I carry it this way all day and really don't even know it's there...

The Wcon is a nice addition, I just bought mine used off a forum member and it is a great piece of glass...it realy opens up the view alot more than I though it would...

You may want to consider the DPS-9000 battery pack that screws into the tripod mount, relatively inexpensive and lasts a long time...

Good luck and don't forget to post on the other oly forum also also when you get it...newby just got an E-10...he loves it...

Ditto: If you are skipping the LiPO, the continual swapping of NiMH will drive you nuts. I imported a DPS from the US and had to pay a fortune in tax, and import duty etc..... still worth it however. Relax and take pictures. Has 120/240v dual charger so can be used pretty much anywhere. Even has a cigar lighter plug so the battery can be topped up in the car.

WCON.. very nice

I have not had good luck with E-10 IR. The older Oly's seem to do a far better job.

Congrats on the new rig I am sure you will enjoy the experience. I agree that one of the best add-ons I have is the DPS 9000. Also a .6 Grad ND filter has been a real help to me along with the polarizer for landscape shots.

So good luck and above all don't forget a duck. Quack Quack LOL

Hi Diane.

I think I know what you're talking about but I'm not 100% sure. Does this Newton grip allow you to keep the flash at a vertical position while you rotate the camera to portrait mode? I thought the Oly flash bracket was necessary to achieve TTL flash or is it only the cable? Do you have a link to show the setup?

Thanks, Maxven

Don't worry, I won't forget my roots. ;-) Thanks for the tip on the Optech strap. I've been wondering how heavy the E-20 would be to carry around. A shoulder strap sounds like the way to go.

About the battery pack, is the E-XX really that power hungry? I was hoping a few sets of good NiMh would get me along but maybe I should consider the Lipo after all? Hmm... :-)

Regards, Maxven

P.S.: Say hi to our friend Bill and tell him I'm doing good.

Hi Paul.

As you can see in my answer to Bob I may consider the Lipo. From Phil's review it looks like the E-20 does fairly well on a set of AAs. Doesn't this hold true in real world use?

If you noted the P.S. in my post there's a way to get around getting taxed when getting stuff from the US. You need somebody you trust (i.e. not that buzzy2 fella) to order the stuff for you. Then when he/she ships it have the package tagged as a gift. Gifts aren't subject to import duty so it's possible to avoid the usual European ripoffs.

Maxven,

I don't think the E-xx is any more power hungry than any of my other digicams...(C-2100, C2020, C3000) but I thought that at the price for the DPS- 9000 it was worth it just to have the "gas gauge" lights that tell you how much power you have left instead of running out a couple shots after the battery light comes on...with this pack I can leave the camera for a week and still have (and verify) good power for an all day shoot...

If you can afford the Lipo go for it but I don't think it's a must...a couple sets of good NmhDs will still get you through a normal day...

Ain't sure I'm talkin to ya so long as yer usin Cousin newby's perfile... Ya said ya wouldn change yer name if an perhaps I answered some newbie posts. Well, I did and done that but then ya still changered yer name so now I don't wanna answer no steenkin posts nomore!

Anyways my ADSL might be faster than yers but my E-20's slower then yer E-10! How's that fer ya?!

Hi Buffalo Bob.

How much is the DPS-9000 compared to the Lipo? Do I need to look for a particular model or is the DPS-9000 it?

Hi Jeff.

I can't believe I switch to another forum and keep getting duck jokes, lol. However, I am looking forward to getting a billboard size duck print sitting on the roof.

Too bad about IR. Did you just have bad luck with your filters or is this a common thing in the E-XX? IR makes for some interesting shots both in winter sceneries and foilage. I take it the .6 Grad ND filter is to minimize blown highlights due to the 1/640s shutter speeds or is there more to it?

Maxven,

Huge differemce in price...I paid $73 US for mine in CompUSA and others have been buying theres online for about $55...

Here's some photos I took of the pack attached to the E-10 and Uzi...

Sorry about the duck thing but I couldn't help myself. LOL

I tries my Hoya R72 on the E-10 and the results (compared to the C2100) were bad. First I could hardly see through the lens and second all the pictures had a bright red glow. When I converted them to B&W there was just no comparison.

I had to get the .6 GND to keep from blowing the blue shy out. I have used it with the polarizer and have gotten far better shots than ever before.

Pretty nifty! It looks like there's cord between the battery pack and the DC inlet. Since I don't have the E-20 in hand yet can you tell me if this means leaving a door open like it would on the Uzi?

Another thing I've been wondering about, is the B-300 usable on the E-XX or is it all vignetting?

Maxven, on the E-10 (not sure on the E-20) it is just a little rubber cover, not really a hinged door...no problem with the cord in this...

It will work with a step ring but there is vignetting, I didn't want the hassle so I got the Tcon-14B...hardly use it on the E-10 though, I use it on the Uzi cause it gives a lot of zoom range so it is more flexable than the B-300...No zoom range with it on the E-10 though...I use the E-10 more for wider angle, portrait, landscape and macro stuff anyways...I use the Uzi for all my zoom stuff...

Hi Buffalo Bob,

I'm really interested in the DPS-9000 which I first heard of in this thread. But I've looked high and low to find the specs and they just don't seem to be published.

Can you tell me what it weighs. Also, do you know if there's a belt pouch for it or does it stay fastened to the camera?
Thanks for the help.
