Is lens sharpness king?

I'd put 'sharpness' at 0 / 10 - I don't like 'sharpness'; I don't ever apply any sharpness in camera or post-processing. 'Sharpness' to me is digital nastiness that takes me further away from wet chemistry photography.

Ultimately, it's the printed photograph that is important - bokeh and detail are important in this respect which will be characteristics of the lens but, generally, the machinery used is incidental, apart from the printer . . .
