D-Lux5 for a 3 week Florida and Washington vacation

Hi, this is my first post in the Leica forum.

I have been reading this forums since 1998 and and I really appreciate the friendly and photo-orientated discussions here at the Leica forum.

Currently I have Canon 5DII, 20D, 16-35/f2.8L II, 35/f1.4L, 50/f1.4, 135/f2.0L, 70-200/f4.0L IS, 400/f5.6L.

My family i planning a for a 3 week Florida and Washington vacation.

This is what we originally planned to bring for the trip.
My wife - Panasonic LX3 24-60mm.
My son - Canon G7 35-200mm.
Myself - 5D Mark II with only 2 lenses.
Zooms for versatility 16-35/f2.8L II and 70-200/f4.0L IS,
or my two best prime lenses 35/f1.4L and 135/f2.0L.

Well after 11 days of thinking and debating what lenses to bring and worrying over weight and bulk as a hindrance on a family vacation especially on rides in theme parks my clever wife said: Why not by a really good LX5 or D-Lux5? It covers 24-90mm at f2.0-3.3 is small and had good HD film too. I am also planning to by Lightroom and since it is included with the D-Lux5 it will cost the same as getting the LX5 + Lightroom 3 here in Sweden.

Perhaps the best solution for this summer is a D-Lux5 24-90/f2.0-3.3 and 5DII or even my older 20D with only one tele lens the 70-200/f4.0L IS?

We already have a LX3 that we really like a lot!
Is the newer D-Lux5 as good or better?

My two best lenses are really very good IQ but they are big and heavy and for the future I am now thinking to sell most of my DSLR and put the money in a M9 or M10 and 2-3 lenses and perhaps only keep my old EOS 20D + 1-2 lenses for tele and fast moving children.

Best Regards
