Best wedding wishes to Prince William and Kate Middleton

This is not a Challenge. Maybe you would like to share your photos of this wedding celebration with the Commonwealth and the world. Photos of the street parade, or of London’s decorations. I doubt we'd be lucky to have any photos from inside the church? (Or the next day’s hangover) Sorry, I won’t be there to have any photos to contribute, but I hope members will share photos on this thread.
The wedding has been over for hours and I don't think anyone has yet posted their photo of this wedding as the OP requested. There's still about 39 posts left so the highjackers and complainers have left room for your pictures of this beautiful wedding.
I wouldn't hold your breath.

As 'knox' already astutely observed - "dpreview seems to be a 'social networking' site for the 2011 version of (Steve Martin / Charles Grodin) 'lonely guys'.

The chances of many DPReview members being out there on the day, and having captured anything more worthy than that of the press or the TV are pretty slim.

I only wish I was wrong.

What you are saying is that the premise and request of the OP was flawed from the beginning. And the highjackers and complainers did not actually obstruct or consume the space from anything that had a chance. So what's the beef?

It's a sad day unfortunatey for some, but to all those who watched the wedding and enjoyed the day, I send you my wishes.
Jules
Unavoidable personally I find a discussion of the royals as irrelevant to most people that's being polite. In these difficult times it's completely understandable that they will be the target of criticism a fortune spent on one wedding when some people are living in poverty..does in fact leave a bad taste in the mouth. And that's before we get into the class debate argument ;-)
I don't know if it was done in this case because the hype was all about pomp and showing off, but in many cultures and communities, for big events like weddings, big anniversaries, etc. the parties would announce that a substantial contribution was made to honor the event to a needy charity. I remember in my community, the favorite charities were the Children Hospital and the Elderly Care Home. I don't know if that was to avoid a bad taste for extravagant spending or that the people were closer to the needy.

I think you guys are getting way to hung up on the cost thing, firstly, all the hardware and pariphenalia is in place for the wedding in any case, the soldiers are already paid and it costs no more to have them do their thing on the wedding day, the changing of the guard and all that ceremonial stuff takes place on a regular basis all year round and is more than paid for by the tourist revenue, millions visit London just to see it....its a very lucrative business, the royal coaches, buildings, are all in place, Westminster Abbey is there waiting as were all the clergy and staff, choirs and musicians....it is what they exist for....now you could object to all that and abolish the lot, but what an impoveished countyry England would be, and what would be the benefit?

The major royals are in a nightmare situation from my perspective, 24/7 news scrutiny, but they handle it well and they earn their money for UK PLC, the minor royals and hangers on are a different matter, and we could do with less of them for sure

You can see from the coverage that the British Monarchy still has massive popular appeal here ( I think its all theatrical BS personally but people love it), they unite the nation and perform a valuable function imo, the money that the royals get is pretty irrelevant imo, they cant put a foot wrong lest the media reports it, I wouldnt swap.

But most of all, this is our version of Holywood, its a business and the world loves it, it brings in loads of money and gives the UK a unique identity....forget the cost, thats a non-issue in the big picture, they pay their way

No - that's your own, incorrect, interpretation.

There was nothing flawed in the OP's message/request.

There has been plenty of space, and even when this thread is full, anyone is still free to post another.

It's almost certainly true that those who rapidly turned the thread to a political discussion may have turned off prospective 'on-topic' (photography) posters - and we are justified in complaining about it.

Agree. But perception and good will are everything. Even overspending, but money-making, organizations here in the US like the NBA and NFL have good will charity promotions like NBA Cares, etc. I would hope that some of that "loads of money" the Royal Family brings in is used to help the needy. It would also quell some of the resentment if such were more publicized.

And Knox doesn't know what he's talking about.

Tell us what percentage of threads talk ONLY about non-photographic topics?

You of course apparently enjoy posting on each and every one of them. So, does your life revolve around posting complaints about a handful of threads? :D

In fact, you form a "social netwerk" with your complaining buddies.

Believe me - there is little or no 'resentment'.

No - by your own words - you yourself are exagerating

Another of your 'exagerations'.
