Kelby Defends Perfect Layers

On the Episode 08 video "The Grid", Scott Kelby defends Perfect Layers and sort of distances himself from the project.

He rightly points out that it is designed for people who don't have PhotoShop or Elements. And he implies it is free: he repeats the word "free" two or three times before saying it's a free public beta.

I think the point that he misses is that the plugin is more expensive than Elements and nowhere near as powerful. Also, OnOne implies on their site that it's great for people who do have PhotoShop, which is a bit of a stretch.

In the end, Scott says "hey if you don't like it don't buy it." That's perfectly valid. But there's nothing wrong, in my opinion, with discussing the utility of product --especially in the context of the price. Scott seems to think that this is trashing the product. And sometimes people do go way overboard and start suggesting that people who like a product are idiots or worse. But this thread and others elsewhere were probably started by people who downloaded the beta and ended up scratching their heads in confusion.
