Why does focusing on a DSLR have to be so much more difficult than a point and shoot?

Seriously. Why? I have a D7000, and a Canon pocket point and shoot. The damn Canon focuses better than the DSLR. Why the hell does focusing with a DSLR have to be so much more difficult? I have such a low keeper rate with my D7000 its really starting to make me second guess myself. I read all of the posts, tried tweaking the settings, measured the backfocus doing the battery test - but I really can't get consistent results. I really don't understand...
