Small sensor = deeper DOF, right?

It's a "myth" because changing the sensor size does nothing more than crop any given image circle. In truth it's the focal length and aperture of the lens that define the depth of the field. Since cameras with smaller sensors also tend to have lenses with shorter focal lengths, this means smallers sensors and greater depth of field are typically linked. Ah haaaa!
