brown pelicans at the cleaning station [13 imgs]

Underneath many of the bridges over the Intracoastal Waterway in South Florida are fish cleaning stations so fishermen can clean and fillet their catch. When you take a fish like this large cobia to one of those stations, you are bound to attract attention:

Pelicans in the area come looking for parts we don't want:

They take different approaches to convincing the fisherman to throw a tidbit their way:

Polite patience:

Intense staring with hypnotic steel-blue eyes:

Eager anticipation:

followed by intense competition:

Success (who knew some pelicans go for mohawks?)

There were other interested onlookers as well, like this immature Little Blue Heron:
