Rain "gear" camera protection - DIY Solutions??

I know there are many commercial rain/foul weather protective devices on the market for 35mm SLR and lenses and etc. I'm looking for the "free" kind of setups, since I can't afford custom or commercial solutions.

I'm wondering what "home-made" do-it-yourself designs working photographers have come up with - photojournalists, sports shooters, etc - anyone who would be out shooting in rain and foul weather.

I'm thinking along the lines of plastic wrap, hoods, umbrellas, rubber bands, and so forth. I'm sure there are many other creative ideas and constructions out there and would love to be able to use them to protect both camera body and various lenses easily. Preferably share with pictures or sketches of your concept?

Thanks and I am sure everyone here will appreciate any tips or ideas!!
