don't worry about that - some of the worst put together lenses are still made in Japan - Sigma consistently throw out dud after dud off their japanese production lines as do (to a lesser degree) Tamron and Canon .. That may be so, but 99.9% of the stuff I have bought that was made in Japan has been trouble-free. "Made in Japan" on an electronic item is like "sterling" on silver. I am suspicious of any Japanese product that is made somewhere else for cheaper labor.
