high iso.. are we getting spoiled?

i have a d80 now and really want to buy a d300s.
Before buying i always read and read a lot about the camera (too much..).
I think the d300s will be a great camera for me.
Only thing i worry about is the high iso performance.

But.. is this something i should be worried about.?
When the d300 came out everybody was very pleased with the high iso.
Now there is the d7000 which has even better high iso ( and d5100 aswell)

Sure high iso , the higher the better, but what was the high iso before the digital era?
a lot lower than the d300s i quess.

i need some reassuring feedback about this

am i trying to sell myself this great camera .. or is it true and is it best to lookout for a higher iso camera.
Are you d300 users having trouble with the high iso?
