A secret is using PS CS5 for exact stacking. Photomatix is not as good. The other problem is, I don't generally carry a tripod everywhere I go. I find that in that magic 1/2 second I am highly unlikely to get any ghosting . . . except maybe something like a breaking wave, in which case a tripod will make little difference. I have a very nice tripod with a Kirk B3 ballhead, but it often stays in the car.
