Hi

Please shortlist some cameras for travel purpose. Budget strictly less than 300$. (I am from India, so that would mean less than Rs.15000 strictly)

0) I wont be printing photos, only watching them on PC. So megapixels is not a problem. 10MP would be fine.
1) Should have high IQ under normal light/daylight
2) Shoud not be too big (easy to carry)
3) Some manual controls will be a big plus
4) Video capability can be as poor as possible as it is not needed

You might want to do some research and look up some previous posts. Recently I've seen 2-3 of those posted per day.....so I know there has to be tons of answers out there.

Rather than recommending any particular model, I suggest looking for a refurbished DSLR and kit lens. It will produce better image quality than any new "point and shoot" or zoom lens digital camera on the market. Typically you may find a Canon or Olympus or Nikon model that is being replaced by a newer model at an excellent price. They are all quite good especially if you get a model with an IS or VR lens.

i like the canon sx210 but i am sure there are other good ones too for the price. you cant go wrong with it too. video is top notch too. r

also check out older ricoh gx100 for 299 on amazon and maybe the ex1. last i checked that was hovering around 300. those are 3 choices for you. r

Those particular models are at least a year old. Still decent choices for the $200 market. But with a $300 budget I'd look for a more current camera. Some promising new ones have been announced by Canon and Sony. And Panasonic is always in the game.

Nikon S8100 is what I ended up choosing with very similar criteria.
