Thom's review of the state of Nikon DX is depressingly accurate

Thom Hogan's comments are critical largely on the missing lenses and quality control from the Thai factory.

It seems that if Nikon has a lens Canon does not, Canon brings it out fairly soon, e.g., 200-400mm. On DX lenses, Nikon largely ignores Canon.

We need for Nikon DX at the least: a wide prime zoom or two (small and light), a 300mm f/4 with VR, a revised 80-400mm VR, and something longer that mortals can both afford and carry. Thom has other DX lenses he wants. See his articles (DX has moved to the compilation of the State of... that you can get to from his first page).

All of the current better DX-type bodies do the job well, Canon or Nikon. The big difference is in lens availability. Nikon's mirrorless system should be out in a month of two. I'll give this lens issue until the end of 2011.
