Using an Epson 1400 as an example:

A single cartridge holds about 12mL of ink and costs about $10. At that price, a liter would cost about $833.

By contrast, I've seen as uch as 650mL of ink (claiming to be UV resistant, though if you want archive quality, you're not using dye-based ink anyway) for around $20 shipped.

I've been using non-OEM inks and with the right printer/paper profile the results are as good as the OEMs
