I'm just curious how group members carry their NEX 3/5. Do you use the included neck strap, a wrist strap or go "commando" style with nothing dangling?

I've attached a small wrist strap (from a Fenix flashlight) but find I forget to thread my wrist through it most of the time anyway. I might just do away with it and go commando.

Cheers,

Carlo

I have a long neck strap that drapes to hip level. It's excellent for landscape shots, but awkward for portrait. luckily it unclips and shortens to a pseudo wrist strap.

I use a Luigi's thin black wrist strap. It's attached to the camera with one of those tripod things. It creates a perfect triangle that leaves the camera rest with 2 fingers on the grip, the thumb is near the rear but doesn't have to be.... It's a very fast accurate way to carry the camera. I carry my "M's the same way.

I've tried all kinds of wrist straps and neck straps, from Gordy's to a custom seatbelt neck strap. Hilariously, I've settled on a $5 Olympus wrist strap that is very thin and doesn't add any bulk. Go figure!

I made my own from some thin webbing.

Indeed, I just despise neck straps. They are just "always in the way," and I really prefer to carry the camera "in hand" while I'm out and about.

I have always used wrist straps -- even with my old DSLR. I've been using the high-quality "woven" straps that Canon supplied with its pocket cameras many years ago -- the newer ones just aren't nearly as nice.

I've bought a bunch of these from Canon's "eStore" over the years, but a year or so, they just disappeared. I recently bought a fresh supply from an eBay seller from Hong Kong -- hopefully they will outlast my needs for a few years.

So, it's "wrist strap" for me -- nothing fancy at all, just a basic wrist strap.

Personally, I couldn't stand the included neck strap with the NEX-3, so I ditched it for the neck strap from an old Sony camcorder. However, I use the neck strap when I'm walking a distance without taking pictures, otherwise I'd rather hand-hold. Also, I use it for support when a tripod or stable surface is unavailable or inconvenient. So neck strap for the most part, though how much use it gets is an entirely different story.

I can't believe those nutjobs at Sony don't put zoom into their prime lenses.
Anything with a little greek A is cool by me.

i use a long neck strap that sits hip height.

I use the included neck Strap for the Nex 5. I haven't found it uncomfortable in any way yet. I'll probablly buy a wrist strap as well to try that out.

Wrist strap every time, no matter what the camera.

The primary purpose of a wrist strap is security against accidental dropping, so forgetting" to use it shouldn't even be an option.

Wrist strap but a strong camcorder one with a tightener

I use Gordy's wrist strap.

It's excellent for bare hands, but too small for when I am using a glove.
I might order another larger one, but the the black/red version.
Needs some wearing in though, after that it's very comfortable.

I also couldn't stand the neck strap. So i don't use any straps right now. Nex-5 has a good grip. I might consider a wrist strap coz changing lenses in street is bit harder without a strip.

I dropped my NEX within 20 min of owning, looked at the neck strap included and said no thanks.

With OM lenses I haven't dropped it since and the camera has plenty of support. I'm not going to drop it while using it.

"I'm not going to drop it while using it"... I have a sense of deja vu here, because I think that's what I probably said until the time I lost my footing on wet grass while taking a picture. It was a hard lesson; the camera ended up in the stream at the bottom of the slope I was by then sitting on.

Many years later, a similar thing happened. This time the camera got a bit of mud and grass on it but was otherwise unharmed and still attached to my wrist.

Stuff happens, be prepared for it.
