Build quality of newer Rebels vs XT

I had a Rebel XT, and have gotten a lot of use out of it. It's held up very well, with only the "grippy" stuff wearing off in a couple of places leaving bare plastic.

I am considering a couple of options for a new camera body, including the T2i and T3i. From a build quality standpoint, should these newer cameras be at least as durable as the XT? Or...has Canon gone with cheaper plastics, etc., for lower cost?

What about shutter life?

I know the T3i is not out yet, but one of things I like is the LCD, but that also seems like something that can break easily.

Thanks...I am trying to at least be aware if I am running into a "they don't build 'em like they used to" situation.
