It looks to me like the D700 maintains color integrity and white balance better than the D7000 in all but the most ideal lighting circumstances. I base this on my experiences with both cameras, using lenses such as the 18-200 and the 50 1.8.

It also seems to me that the D7000 is optimized by only the higher qualities of glass, whereas the D700 makes even entry-level lenses look decent to good. In other words, the D7000 shows a lens's flaws, whereas the D700 hides them.

Does anyone else have an opinion on these issues? In addition to adding to the D700/D7000 theoretical debate, I've gotten myself into the ridiculous position of needing to sell one of them because I can't really afford to keep both.

I agree with you on all of these points. On D700 you put some cheap glass like 28-105 F/3.5-4.5, and it feels like 24-70, it truly is an amazing piece of machinery.

You can sell D7000 now when they are still flying. You can buy a used D90 (I've seen prices for used D90 hit $500 recently on my local craigslist) if you still want to use some of your DX glass.
