If you want to use 1/30th, you can do so, only if your are steady enough to keep the camera from moving. That is why I think the other people recommended that. Just make sure that on the custom menu for flash, e1, that the shutter speed is set to 1/30th at the low end so it will flash. If e1 is left on 1/60th, it will not flash at 1/30th.
