Canon 85 1.8 - focus question

85 1.8 - great lens, old photo attached

Trust yourself. The 85/1.8 is an amazing portrait lens (I'm not a pro, just an able amateur). The photo below is from 2002 taken with my then-new Canon D60 and the 85/1.8.

Personally, I've always felt that with a subject in the studio and lighting that one can setup in advance.... well, that makes things a bit easier for even a mediocre lens to do a decent job. This lens, imho, really shines in candids ans snaps (such as a birthday party) as well. Here is one of my then 1-year-old daughter after she broke into a crying fit in the park (yes, she was hugged immediately afterward). The photo was taken with available light (obviously). It was a bit overcast at the time. I had seconds to grab this photo...
