Ok, I guess we all know he'll probably post it soon, but it looks like it might be VERY soon; has anyone else noticed that Phil has password-protected the folder of the G3 review?:

Suppose Phil creates folders for new cameras on the day that they are announced, just for the sake of organization? :-)

Suppose Phil writes his reviews on another computer system altogether so as to give them real security and protection from prying eyes and only uploads them to the proper folder when the review is done? :-)

If either of these is true, we could be waiting for a long, long time without any idea of when the review is coming. Heheheheh...

Ain't I a stinka? ;-)

I can provide evidence against this theory. A couple times over the last few weeks I have gone to the page of the G2 review:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canong2/

and just changed the 2 at the end to a 3 to see if maybe he had a preliminary version sitting there, unannounced. I'd always get one of those "Page not found" browser errors. But after seeing faux_poster's post this morning I tried it again and this time I got the "please enter login/password" pop-up box. So the folder wasn't there before, and now there is one. One that temporarily needs to be protected from prying eyes.

altogether so as to give them real security and protection from
prying eyes and only uploads them to the proper folder when the
review is done? :-)
Based on the above evidence I'd have to say he is atleast working on the G3 review. But the question is, is he just starting it? Or is he, as Ulysses suggested, already done and just in the process of uploading it? It shouldn't take to long to upload everything (assuming he has something better than a 28.8 connection to the server) but he probably also takes time once its up to double check the links and proofread everything. In this case, I'd say it will be done and available sometime today (Halleluiah!! :) )

I remember it was revealed he began to touch G3's battery life more than a week ago:-). It's quite possible he took test shots together with the S45 when the weather was good in Lodon:-)

I have enough patience to wait for Phil's review till tomorrow, but not the day after tomorrow, because then I'll have received my G3 and have no time to read it:-)

I dont want to be pessimistic but this has happened before and still it took several days - or even weeks, I dont remember for sure - before the review appeared. Also remember that the first evidence that a S45 review was in the making came in october when the Minolta F100 review was posted.
Hope I am wrong.....

João Salvador

I appreciate your investigation, but how big of a surprise is it that he works on a G3 review?

Who would not work on it? There is no camera site or magazine that will leave out the G3 or any canon camera.

Eferybody be assured a G3 review will be here.

Perhaps he saw a CA or a softness problem and was waiting for a production camera from Canon so that he could give a more accurate review. :-)
faux_posteri
n the battery endurance test of the s45 the g3 is already listed...
(highest score!!) so he must have done more then one test already
on the g3!

Since so many people have been pestering Phil for a G3 review, he decided to punish them by never writing one. JUST KIDDING!

You're probably right on target too! While everyone is interested in Phil Askey's G3 review, some folks are REALLY anxious about it. Amazing.

Yes, I realize that - that's why I titled my post "non-news of the day". I was just suprised to see that there was a G3 directory ready and password-protected, instead of the usual "page not found".

I'm desperate for review! I can purchase any Canon or Sony through a work rewards scheme but it closes off on the 30th November. Every day I wait with bated breath.
