SO I had a free hours today and it was nice and sunny here in Seattle, I headed over to pike place market to test out the GH2 (used mostly 14-140 lens and a 20mm 1.7). A lot of these shots are at the

Starbucks here in Seattle--I know I still have quite a bit to learn on this camera but so far it's been fun, C and C welcome. thanks--

Nice shots. Really like the flowers (and I'm not generally a flower picture kind of guy). The colors are outstanding--better, IMO, than what I usually get with my G1.

Well, I'ma lookin' real close at yer ISO 160 shots, but them teeniny HD screen pixels seem to be coverin' it up, cause we know it's there somewhere, don't we? And I'm just real disappointed in the smooth B&W shot without that pushed upTri-X grain look-alike some folks been conjurin' up with crazy Pixel Torture lately, which BTW oughta' be outlawed these days.

Couple days ago even printed up a couple RAW 100% crops sampalated up to 300ppi - course that'd be like a lookin' at a 37x49" print real close. And yep, gotta admit that stickin' the old schnozzla into 'em, there's a tiny li'l noise pattern that jest gets my blood riled up. Looks like I just agonna' have to stick to 18x25's, where fur the life o' me can't see none.

Oh, them shots is real nice, too. Keep em' comin'!

You're making me homesick - used to live about 4-5 blocks from the Market on the south end of the Regrade, pretty much the north end of downtown. Walked through every day on the way home from work for fresh veggies and sometimes fish. That was a loooooong time ago, though. When the place would be jammed with tourists on weekends but was a real working, low key market during the week.

Shots look good. I see some noise in the sky in that first one, but nothing I'd find objectionable (some folks have complained about the base ISO noise in this cam). Looks like a nice camera - enjoy!

You are too funny ,I guess I've become pixel "paranoid" lol thanks for the feedback!

Anyone else recommend certain settings? It's a learning curve for sure coming from Nikon...Just dont know if the EPL2 photos would look sharper than these or not, I double it I think these are pretty good..

Kevin after two months fiddling with GH2 I use mostly these settings:

Vibrant, Saturation -1, NR -1, rest film settings default. In addition to those I set IR to minimum (sharpens a bit details and blures a bit areas without detail - standard is bit too strong for me and reminds me of IR on Pana compacts). And IExposure to standard - not of a much effect though. Of course all is valid for JPG shooting.
So far so good :)

NR-1 will reduce noise not increase right?

NR - 1 will reduce incamera noise reduction thus increase the noise. However having practically no noise issues with GH2 I do not care about it and I have some more room for better noise handling if I want some extra PPing. (Topaz e.g). The effect is quite minimal - but still... Saturation -1 means a bit less saturation - which seems to be the opposite to "vibrant" settings - but I had some oversaturated problems with blue sky recently so I tuned it bit down.

Frankly nothing to be proud of - something is in my DPR gallery. More or less Hi ISO shots to test the camera limits - you are welcome to have a look. How does it compare to your D300S performance? My Pentax K20d was surprisingly worse in this department.

what do others think of sharpness in these photos? And your experience so far comparing to a DSLR?
Kevin, I had a look at full size images yesterday, I like to check other peoples results compared with my own, LOL. Re sharpness, you have nothing to worry about, they are sharp enough as far as I can see. You could reduce NR down at notch and sharpen up a notch if you are a jpg shooter, otherwise I noticed that you had used a camera preset for landscape, and the results looked good.

Keep doing what your doing they looked very good to me for usre.
