Just a quick note to let you S45 and unlucky G3 owners know that I am already using a tweaked version of Powershovel with my S45 images and it rocks!!!. Thanks to Alexander Tsvyashchenko!!!!!!

It should be available soon for you all to enjoy, I will be posting ICC profiles and a PS Action for PowerShovel's S45 images later this week.

You never asked a question which can be found?

And so what it can be found? I also answer questions like 'Does a S45 have movie mode?' and 'How many zoom has G3?'

It's obvious that Colin is jelous of G3 owners (either he can't afford one or it's not available in suburbs) and has to make negative comments about G3 in every post... especially when he started thread that S45 is better then G3...

I am not jealous of unlucky G3 owners Dan (Maybe you have a G4 and are jealous of S45 owners!), I had both available to buy and went for the S45! it produced better images and yes I tried both.

LOL! Cant afford one...........

Well I have owned both the G2 & D60 up until a couple of weeks ago!

The S45 is for my wife!

Colin,

Is it possible to get the source code; You said in a previous posting that it uses an interpolation derived from the D30;

Since I am working on a tweeked PowerShovel version for the G2, I would like to have the algorithm (or a link to it) so that I can try that for a G2; I have the code of the current G2-PowerShovel;

G4? unlucky? sorry don't understand... especially the part where S45 is for your wife... then why do you care about G3 vs S45 you are not the one who is gonna use it anyway...

I care because I think consumers should be aware of the G3 many problems!

Look at the forum now it is full of posts on CA and yes the S45 handles this better as well probably because of the smaller lens.

Just because it is my wife’s does not mean I cannot use it and give an unbiased (Because it is not mine) opinion.

P.S Cameras I have on order:-

Contax TVS and the new Canon 1ds

haven't seen any good shots from s45 yet in full size

I've had my G2 since October last year and am thinking of buying the S45 for travelling. I have a couple of questions arising from this thread.

1) Would someone please tell me what 'CA' means.

2) I'm happy with 'Downloader' and 'Breezebrowser' and the support I get from Chris. Nevertheless I'd like someone to tell me what 'Powershovel' is and what it does please.

I saw a post of D60 decode of a pub, "Fox and Duck" that looked great. Did you use this tweaked powershovel to do the demosaic?

Did you change the demosaic Algorithm, or use the same one as Alexander.

SOL got it right - the point is you always seem to make negative comments regarding the G3 despite the fact that it may be the best within its class. Is it perfect - no. Would I rather have it than an S45 - absolutely. Your post is acceptable and complete without the "unlucky" reference - just say NO.

Cool, I didn't realize there was still being work done on Powershovel (I've been away for a while). I look forward to giving this new Powershovel a try. If y'all can figure out how to get the same amount of resolution (or at least close) while eliminating those nasty edge noise artifacts, that'd be sweet as that's the biggest problem with Powershovel, IMO.

I wonder if there's anyone working on getting the D60 images to work with Powershovel? It'd be interesting to see how those images look after being "Powershoveled".

Plus, if I were to upgrade it would be great to still be able to use the app.

Hi Peter,

The pub image used David Coffin's CRW decompressor coupled with my very bad implementation of "variable-gradient interpolation" and a simple smoothing filter.

The interpolation in powershovel is not as good as in the latest version of David's code IMHO but I am sure it will be tweaked soon.

I would be happy to post a link to a compiled version of David's latest code for anyone interested.

We must be thinking along the same lines. I thought of grabbing David Coffins extractor code and then merging it with a demosaic from a paper.

I wanted to get a demosaic I was happy with first. I used
http://www.changed.org/pubs/3650-05_final.PDF

But it did a ton of colour fringing. So I sort of stopped. It is possible I still had bugs. Then again I did no filter, I think I some high frequency chroma filtering would help. Also I relly didn't compare it to anything.

So who is updating Powershovel?? If Davids code is better, why not use that? I haven't looked recently, but I was quite able to figure out which Demosiac algorithm was used in Davids.
