I agree with the murky part. I think when we pp this picture, we are trying to bring out details lost in over-exposure. We get more detail, but in the process the white background turns murky and the tradeoff for detail vs color may not be worth it.
Good lighting would provide both the detail and color we are trying to achieve. If it were an object with solid colors & lines, and not a baby, pp would do wonders.
