A55 Problem in Studio Use

Another work-around

I bought a Minolta 2000i flash for £3 on EBay.

The EVF stays bright, the focus-assist light works, but the unit does not output the pre-flashes which would occur with a "D" compatible Sony/Minolta flash, or the built-in flash.

One can trap a piece of unexposed developed film between the flash window and the wide angle clip-on to blank out most of the visible spectrum, but it will still initiate optical sensor-controlled studio flashes.

Another possibility (not tried by me!) if PC sync is required could be this adapter:

If an "original" style Minolta AF flash (e.g. 1800AF or 4000AF - ISO shoe) were fitted, it should provide flash-ready on pin F2, thus making the EVF bright-up. I stress "should". However, afaik, the focus-assist lamp will not work, as the control system is different and not compatible.
