Those of us who use the threaded view know EXACTLY to which post we replay to. We can't make mistake and reply to who knows whose post.

I don't see how someone using the flat view is going to mistake which post is being replied to. The reply button doesn't choose a post at random...

The problem is, they read through some of the thread, then hit "reply" on the last post they see, with the intent to reply to the OP. That last post might be way up in the middle of a completely different subthread. It happens all the time to me - people replying to me instead of to the OP.
