ETTR is certainly an interesting concept, but I question it's usefulness.

Here's a quick test I just did, 100% crop of a shadowed area from RAW with no noise reduction, all default, ISO1600.

ETTR-ed version certainly looks better, but shutter speed was twice as long, so why not just use normal exposure and apply a stop lower ISO?

I guess ETTR might work well to reduce noise in ISO100/200 landscape shots, but here it's not really an advantage IMO.
