I shoot night photography quite a bit and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a good pair of gloves that will keep your hands warm but tight enough that you can operate your camera.....regular gloves just don't get it.......thx

I have a pair of hunting gloves -- they are extremely snug by design and are almost adequate for adjusting the camera. These gloves are made of something like neoprene.

A friend has mittens with an opening in the palm to stick your fingers out when needed. That seems much more reasonable.

The ultimate solution, of course, is to get a Nikon D3 with its oversized controls. Hehehe.

Recently purchased neoprene fishing gloves-they have peel back finger and thumbs. Only draw back is they are not as warm as my fleece gloves (but water and windproof) and the neoprene smell lingers on your hands for a while.

Fishing gloves. The pair I just lost had three fingers on each glove with tips that could be folded back, held in place by by velcro. Here's an example.

Not suitable for extremely low temperatures (you could always add an over-mitt of course) but unbeatable for photography.

--Khols Store has new "texting gloves" They are natural lether on top and some type of very good griping vise material on a palm of hand and 2 fingers have ability to lift a top for texting or filing a shutter. I tray them and they are OK for ocasional cold not Yellowstone winter.

I think the second poster hit a good one: they are called glo-mitts. These are warm woven gloves, with a mitten cap that fits over four fingers, but can be flopped back, and held out of the way with a Velcro tab. The best ones are ragg wool knit with suede leather palms. I just lost a pair and am looking for another.

Hi,

I have a pair of these mittens from Outdoor Research, but I can't find them on their website. They're not very warm by themselves, but much better than nothing. The best thing is, of course, that you can free your four fingers as well as your thumb by folding back the cover. Very practical !

I have a pair of gloves from Lowe (??) which are black knit with bobbly bits on them for grip... I havent seen them on sale for a few years mind, so they may not do them anymore...

I also use Kevlar Safety gloves when its not too cold, these are very tight fitting witha knitted kevlar back and a sort of latex rubber palm and fingers so give excellent grip and dexterity... and they are cheap!

Recently I have taken to wearing the safety gloves inside the Lowe gloves for extra warmth...

I would encourage peeps to look at PPE gear for some needs... things like safety shoes and boots and Hi-Viz jackets and vests and safety gloves (In particular) can be very usefull and very very cheap...
