Ein Kerem - Christianity off the beaten track in Jerusalem

Ein Kerem is a very old village, dating back to ancient biblical times, within Jerusalem. It is significant to Christianity, as it is traditionally the birthplace of St. John the baptist. It has several interesting churches, and as it is on a tree covered hill, looks like a bit 'abroad' to us Israelis

A view of st.John the baptists Catholic Church from the second hill near the church of the visitation

And one with a cloud

In the courtyard of the Catholic church they have the Benedictus on the wall in many languages, and people find their language and say it

A glimpse inside

The Greek orthodox church (now nearly always closed)

The church of the visitation where Jesus's mother visited her cousin, john's mother

The cave or grotto in there is the rock n which john the baptists family hid from Herod's soldiers

And with so many churches you are bound to find some Christians.

In solitude

making a rosary and enjoying a pipe

A happy and healthy new year to all my Christian friends on this wonderful forum, i hope to post a few more threads of the same nature soon.
