The DX vs. FX false choice

From Thom Hogan's D7000 review: "As I've been trying to tell people for some time, you're either a DX user or an FX user... So we've come to a time when you need to make a decision: am I DX or FX?"

Huh? How's this anything but a false choice? Would it be possible that a photographer could enjoy the benefits of a DX body (more reach, lighter weight, etc.) in one setting, then have a need for FX in another (shallower DOF, better low light performance, etc.)? Or are we to say all those who carry both types of bodies in their bag are misguided?

It's easy to argue about equipment and technique, but hard to argue with a good photograph -- and more difficult to capture one .
