D7000 18-105 Backfocus

I have figured out that I have a consistent back focus issue. Not sure if it's the lens or the body. I have tried using the lens focus adjust feature (cool btw) but find that what works for one part of my focal range doesn't work for another. I have -2 set which seems to help.

I guess the question is how prevalent is this issue and is it worth looking for an exchange. This issue is killing my photos esp with my kids. Focus on the eyes and it really focuses halfway between eye and ear on the cheek. And before anyone asks, yes I use single point in Apurture mode and have tested this with with static targets. I can abate this a bit by going with a higher F stop to gain DoF but it doesn't help my wife who uses auto mode.

I had the dreaded back focus issue on the old canon 30D so I am sensitive to it....in fact that's why I got out of it for a bit, just sick of soft pics even after body/lens service from canon.....cost an arm and a nut...I can't handle it on this too.

Thanks for any perspective you can offer, but Just to be clear I am keeping the D7000 just want to know if its worth risking an exchange, seems to be a mixed bag lately.

Cheers
