Hi.

I will soon be buying my first DSLR (probably a 550D) and it will be a companion to my Panasonic DMC TZ-1 that we currently use for snaps and ebay.

My girlfriend and I share a laptop most of the time (we have a desktop but don't put photographs on it) and all our pics get uploaded to it.

We have about 5000 jpegs from over the years which I am slowly organising into folders.

My girlfriend's ebay snaps (she has an ebay business) get dumped in with everything else when she imports and I delete them when she's finished.

We use Live Gallery to view our pics and I tend to sort out the pics into folders as and when we get them printed but on the whole, the pics are not tagged or rated.

In an ideal world, it would be great if I could set Windows 7 up so that it automatically imports raw files through Lightroom and JPEGS through Live Gallery. Each SD card will either have JPEGS or RAW, not a mixture so this could be feasible perhaps?

When I export the RAWs to JPEGs, they will end up visible in Live Gallery so it would be nice if any tags I applied ended up visible in Live Gallery. Does this happen?

Lastly, as much as I'm dreading it, I intend to try and tag, rate and organise all our pics. Can anyone recommend any quick methods that would fit in with what I want to achieve (ie tags created in Live gallery visible in Lightroom and Vice Versa)?

Thanks for any input.

I don't use live gallery, but I do know that LR's exported JPG still have the keywords 'in them' that I assigned in LR.

As you seem to have two completely different goals and methods I'd suggest to keep the files fysically apart. Make a map for RAWs and make maps there for each session/month/subject or how you want to organise them.

All in my humble opionion of course!

If I seem to talk nonsense or you can't understand me, it's probably my English :)

Thanks very much.

That sounds like a good idea but becuase I don't want my girlfriend having to faff around in Lightroom, I'm not sure how to do things.

I think I'll tag and arrange everything in Live Gallery/Windows 7 Picture library that I have so far and just use Lightroom to process and export RAWs.

seems the most sensible thing to do.
