D7000 review: MPEG-4 parts
The review uses confusing and perhaps confused video format terminology. The video clips are mentioned as being "MPEG-4". In practice MPEG-4 means the previous generation format, often known as divx, xvid etc. The camera however uses MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, which is the latest generation, offering about twice the compression efficiency, and having very different software and hardware requirements.
Also, the format is earlier mentioned as ".MOV MPEG-4 AVC, H.264", which can be understood as the camera offering a choice. The normal way to write the compression format would be "MPEG-4 AVC/H.264".
Technically both of the compression methods are parts of the MPEG-4 family of standards, former being "part 2", and latter "part 10", but few would understand such description.
