Yes, AF on the 24-70mm is blindingly fast - sometimes so fast that using AF-C makes one question if the camera really did find focus as it also is very quiet when doing longer adjustments.

I have also looked at the 14-24mm - I used it when I had the D700, but have kinda dismissed it because of the 21mm equivalent focallength. However, looking back when I used the 18-35mm on the D700 with filters, I had to use just that, 21mm and longer to avoid shadows from the P-mount assembly. That worked.

So, it might work for me after all.
