This is exactly right. The XTi won't handle the 100-400 very well at all because you can't shoot comfortably at ISO 1600, which you'll need to stop action with that lens. You might even need ISO 3200 sometimes. Even though the lens has IS.

So get the 60D. And if that's too much money, and you really want a Rebel, then get the T2i. But the 60D would be better.
