Now, with dslr you'll always have dilemas which lens to buy, maybe I need another, then you see pictures taken with another lens and you know you want it and so on.
However, I'd say for an serious amateur a kit of sigma 10-20, sigma 30mm f/1.4 and canon 55-250 IS will be perfect.
Of course there are different approaches for crop but I have found the UW-zoom + normal prime + tele-zoom to be the most versatile for anything except event photography like weddings, studio portraits and macro.
