Torn between 2 lenses

So I've been one of those guys who has been TORN between the 17-55 2.8 IS and the 24-105 F/4 L IS (and MAYBE the 24-70 2.8 L or new sigma hsm). My walkaround has been the kit 18-135 which is far from sharp (calibration maybe?). Primary use is walkaround and pics of my toddler (so fast focus is required). I borrowed the 24-105 and loved it, but thought the F4 was a bit slow indoors. So i pulled the trigger on the 17-55 2.8. I actualy think it is backfocusing a little bit at 2.8 but that can be easily taken care of by MA or sending to Canon. It is SUPER sharp and the 2.8 with high ISO of the 7D seems great. My concern is the lack of reach, I like to do close ups of my daughter and feel the 55 is limiting, but am worried I'll miss the 2.8 more if I go to the 105.... I do not feel that 24 would be limiting on the wide end as I have the 10-22 also and 30 1.4 for extreme low light. Would appreciate any input from people who went through this or have any thoughts!

Here's 2 shots from the 17-55:

Both of these are JPEG straight out of the camera, Standard picture style.

This one is a 100 percent crop, shot with flash, F/4, 1/60, 43mm, ISO 100

This one is resized with Image Resizer, no flash, handheld, F/3.5, 1/125 sec, ISO 1600, 55mm
