Motor fault 50-200 SWD, is it common ?

I had two 50-200 SWD dead on arrival

My 50-200 SWD is the third lens as the first two had the dead motor problem from the start. That tends to suggest that they left the factory dead, or somehow died quietly while sitting in a warehouse somewhere.

Not hugely reassuring, but then it is such a good lens when you have one that does work properly.

(I haven't had any trouble with my 12-60 SWD, that I bought about six months earlier than the 50-200 SWD.)
