My E-500...

... doesn't have live view but my ultra zoom (Kodak Z612) does. Like many here the live view comes in handy occasionally but I'm using the VF probably 98-99% of the time.

Here's a shot taken with the Kodak where I prefocused, held the camera up about 12 feed off the ground (at the end of a monopod) and fired the shot with the 10 second self timer. It was too high up and at the wrong angle for live view to be an advantage here so I didn't bother. I took about 6 or 8 shoots before I got the composition to my liking. I was guessing at exactly where to aim the camera since I was shooting blind. If I had an articulating live view (E-330, E-3, E-5) then I could have nailed it on the first shot.

'When nothing seems to help, I go and look at a stonecutter hammering away at
his rock perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it.
Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two,
and I know it was not that blow that did it,
but all that had gone before.'
