This DPreview poll is showing a very interesting situation.

Most DSLR users are not interested in Live View.

If you discount respondents whose DSLRs do not have Live View from the poll, then 84% of owners of DSLRs with Live View only use it occasionally, very rearly or never. With 37% indicating never.

...Live View is designed to solve certain problems, not every problem. So, unless your photography consists largely of "certain problems," you are not likely to use Live View all that much.

I use it occasionally on my E-620. It's nice to have when I need it:

  • Low angle shots

  • Group self portraits

  • High angle shots

  • Tripod-mounted macros and scenics

There are undoubtedly more of these situations, but for me these consitute a small portion of my overall shooting.

Jim, I think a better question for them to ask is:

How often is your "Live view" shot successful?

Though I dont need/use it very often, whenever I do use it on my E-330 or E-620, I always get a shot I couldn't very well get in a different manner...

There is a great difference between the simple statements:

I seldom use "live view".

I seldom need "live view", when I do need it, it works well.
