Here's a shot of the moon from a nights ago using the 50-200 SWD, EC14 and EC20 on the 620. It was taken at ISO100 and I wish I had used ISO200 as I think there is a little bit of blur.

The moon was very high in the sky and appeared to be very small so this is cropped quite a bit. Later this month I will try some shots when the moon is lower.

I can't wait to get hold of an E-5!

That's a very nice shot; I didn't know the 50-200 could do that.

I think focus could be a touch better. The best approach is to use live view to manually focus on a bright star.

You indicate you expect the E5 to give better results on the Moon. For the same budget, or even less, you can really get a much better result by going for a larger lens i.e. a telescope. I attach a shot with my E520 and a scope with 700 mm focual length, lightly cropped.

Mark, that's a great shot! How do you make the connection to the telescope....obviously I know nothing of this, but this quality sure has me intrigued.

Almost correct. The connector I'm using doesn't convert 4/3 mount to T-mount, only to require more equipment to connect the T-mount to your scope. This one is a one-piece connector that has 4/3 mount on one side and a 2" tube on the other, fitting directly into the focusser.

See here:

This is just about convenience for me. A classical T-ring would also work and is cheaper.

This is a shot I took with the 50-200mm and EC 1.4 - so 567mm at 35 mm equivalent. ISO 100, f4.9 at 1/1600 of a second on tripod.

I've seen some telescope shots that are poor quality but that shot looks great. Have you tried using an EC aswell?

What scope are you using? I would be interested in getting one if it was too expensive, otherwise I would rather spend the money on a SHG lens.

No I don't have one. I do have a 50-200 zoom and intend to buy the EC-14 for it one day.

The telescope is an APM 107mm (aperture) f/6.5 apochromatic triplet. Costs about $2.5-3K with the accesories needed (mount etc.). If just for takiing that kind of pictures, it's overkill though. You can do that with a $1K scope as well.

I usually don't image the moon but I thought I would share an example that I took tonight. This was taken with my E-620 and a William Optics Megrez 90 FD telescope. It is an f/6.9 APO Doublet with a fl of 621mm. It would be about $1000 USD and is an example of what Mark9473 wrote. This is a nice travel scope, and, has nice glass and coatings. I use it for visual use. The mount could set you back another $500, however, any quality (heavy duty) photo tripod would do fine.

I used live view to focus and a remote to take the shot. It was quick and dirty. I snapped 7 exposures at various speeds and ISO settings. Picked the best from the RAW files and used USM to bring up some details. There is no crop to this image.

Just wanted to share...

northcoastohio, that's a really great shot from your 90FD. Really good tonality. I have an 80FD as my travelscope, but haven't sorted out the balancing yet to attach it to my E520. Some day...

minliang, your shots may very well be the best examples I've ever seen of what the 50-200 can achieve on the Moon. Spot on focus makes all the difference.

Thank you both for sharing.

Your shots are quite good for detail, but I'm struggling for sharpness on my shots, I think I'm focused correctly but I'm only using a travel tripod so maybe I should get a decent sturdy one.

This is one of mine with the EC20.

I don't really want to spend that much on a scope as a $1k scope in the Uk would cost £1K which is about £1.5K. I would rather spend that on a lens that I would get more use out of.

But I'll see, if only Oly would bring out a new 400mm f6.3!

The first shot was taken with E-620 + ZD 70-300 + EC-14 and the second one with my E-330 + ZD 70-300.
