This is from a footpath, so not trespassing, although I also have a PTS certificate for the Mid Hants as I am a volunteer there too. I see you are close by in Southampton so you may well have paid us a visit! I have taken a lot of photos with the Sigma, though on a sunny day the extra reach of the 55-300 can be useful, but moving trains (even at sub 25mph which is the limit on most preserved lines) need a decent shutter speed (I try to keep above 1/320) to prevent subject motion blur. This is where I find TAV mode most useful. Another couple of shots attached taken from same spot with the Sigma
