Yes, that's an option.

Usually I only use a tripod during sunrise or sunset or slow running water. I use a light monopod by itself, or tie to some tree branches, or with the two trekking poles to form a tripod. I found after a day's trekking, especially at high altitude, using a minipod and crouching down is too tired to do. But that's me.
