Re: Population and their gadgets

Hi Russell,

I guess you already saw that for the past couple of years Europe was way ahead Americas and Asia is getting closer and closer. And I am talking about the whole year statistics and also counting the artificial exclusion of Japan from the Asia category. There is a good chance that this year "Americas" will come in third for the whole year regarding dslrs sales for the first time.

Well put "gadgets" because the US seems the largest consumer of compact cameras but is only on the third place in interchangeable lens camera category (dslrs, mirrorless, dslts).

Shipments in the first 7 months of 2010:

Europe: 2.2M units
Asia (except Japan): 1.7M units
Americas: 1.55M units
Japan: 0.78M units

Most shopping for camera, any type, is probably done from Nov. to Dec. in the Americas. Europe will probably be the same. You really need to look at a complete year to draw any conclusions about market share. It is interesting that the Americas leads in lenses purchased for 35mm in 2009. I wonder what has the larger margin, lenses or bodies?

Thank you
